We’re Going Live: Roots Calendar Officially Approved for Google Play Store

Right, so here’s the thing: getting an app approved for the Google Play Store isn’t exactly a walk in the park when you’re a first-time developer. And we’ve just cleared the final hurdle.

After weeks of jumping through hoops — and by hoops, I mean Google’s rather specific requirement that you need 12 people to test your app for a full 14 days before they’ll even consider letting you into their shop — we’ve done it. Roots Calendar is officially approved. It’s only a matter of days now before you can download it directly from the Google Play Store.

The 12-Tester Challenge (Or: How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Trust the Process)

Let’s talk about that 14-day testing period for a moment. When you’re building something as niche as a 13-month Celtic tree calendar app, finding a dozen people willing to use it daily for two weeks straight is… well, it’s an interesting experience. We’re not exactly mainstream material here.

But we found them. Twelve lovely humans who were curious enough about natural time, Celtic traditions, and the idea of syncing their Google Calendar with the cycles of hawthorn and oak trees to give us a proper go. And they stuck with it. Every single one of them.

Turns out, there are people out there who genuinely fancy knowing which Celtic tree their Tuesday belongs to. And they’re not doing it to make a point or wage war on Outlook — they just like it. They find it grounding, calming, maybe even a bit magical. The old ways were always there, quietly doing their thing. We’ve just given them a calendar widget.

What Happens Next?

We’re not stopping here. While we wait for the App Store buttons to appear on the website (both Google Play and Apple — yes, we’re waiting on Apple’s approval too), we’re giving the home screen a bit of a makeover. Nothing dramatic, just making sure your first experience with the app feels as intuitive and welcoming as it should.

The core of Roots Calendar remains the same: a proper 13-month calendar system based on Celtic trees, complete with astronomical calculations, solar time tracking, and biodynamic planting guidance. You can switch between ‘business time’ and ‘natural time’ whenever you need to. Stress-free living, as it should be.

Why This Matters (Beyond Just Us Being Excited)

Here’s the thing about alternative calendar systems: they’re not just quirky curiosities for people who like esoteric topics. They’re practical tools for anyone feeling steamrollered by the relentless pace of modern scheduling.

The 13-month calendar isn’t new — it’s been around in various forms across cultures for centuries. The Mayan calendar system, Celtic traditions, even the International Fixed Calendar proposal from the 1920s all recognised that dividing time into equal 28-day months just makes sense. It aligns with lunar cycles, creates predictable patterns, and gives you breathing room.

What makes Roots Calendar different is that we’re not asking you to abandon your existing commitments. Your Google Calendar events still show up. You can still meet deadlines and turn up to meetings on time. We’re just giving you a parallel view — a way to see where you are in natural time alongside business time.

Keep an eye on our website. The moment those store buttons go live, we’ll be shouting about it. In the meantime, if you’re curious about what a 13-month calendar actually looks like in practice, or how Celtic tree months work, have a poke around our blog. We’ve written quite a bit about the philosophy behind natural time and why the number 13 keeps appearing in traditional calendars.

Thanks to everyone who tested, waited, and generally supported this project. We’re nearly there. See you in the Play Store.
